Idaho is the fourteenth-largest state in the nation. It has a population of 1,716,943 people. Idaho has the nickname of the “Gem State” in reference to its rich mining history and its wilderness areas. This state was one of the hardest hit during the Great Depression, but it came back with a strong economy that has vibrant agriculture, science, and technology sectors. Today, Idaho has the sixth fastest growing economy in the nation.
Although Idaho is an overall healthy state, it does have some health concerns. Things like obesity, mental health, hypertension, chronic respiratory diseases, and heart disease are the top problems in the state. These health concerns have been on the rise over the past few years, especially the mental health and obesity issues.

Meridian’s biggest health problem is obesity. When people are obese, they’re at a higher risk for other health problems like diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular issues. The fifth-largest city in Idaho is the city of Pocatello, with a 2016 population of 54,746 residents.
