Ohio ACLS, PALS, BLS & CPR

OHIO ONLINE PALS, BLS ACLS CERTIFICATION CLASSES

We offer online certification courses in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Life Support (PALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS). Our online classes were created for the convenience of working professionals or parents that lacked the time needed to attend an in-person training class. Courses are self-paced and can be completed at any time of the day. Our CPR/AED and Frist Aid certification classes are ideal for any working professionals that is required to be trained in CPR. We also recommend CPR training for job seekers who would like to add a new skill to their resume. Our ACLS, PALS and BLS certification courses are ideal for healthcare professionals. We offer both primary certification courses and recertification courses.

CPR AED CERTIFICATION AND RECERTIFICATION

Many Ohio employers require their employees to be trained and/or certified in CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). Jobs that may require these types of certifications are construction workers, lifeguards and coaches. Jobs that generally require first aid training are teaching and childcare professions.

Our CPR courses will cover all the materials needed to learn and understand the proper procedures during a cardiovascular emergency. Successful completion of the CPR exam is required before earning your certification card. The exam is conducted online and an in-person skills test is not required. Once the exam is completed, your score will be emailed to you along with your digital provider card (if score is passing). Hard copies of the card are mailed to the address on file. In Ohio, CPR certifications are generally required to be renewed every two years. If you are up for renewal, simply choose our recertification course during registration.

FIRST AID CERTIFICATION AND RECERTIFICATION CLASSES

First Aid are not as widely required as CPR and less employers require their staff to be certified. However, statistics show that nearly 25% of emergency room visits could have been avoided with basic first aid and CPR knowledge. Knowing First Aid is important to any organization’s safety standards. Our First Aid can be taken along with our CPR class at an affordable price. Our course is OSHA compliant and has been updated to meet the most current AHA guidelines.

PALS, BLS & ACLS CERTIFICATION AND RENEWAL COURSES

Ohio is home to one of the highest ranked hospitals in the nation and many other nationally recognized healthcare systems. Providers who care for patients with life threatening cardiac emergencies such as stroke and cardiac arrest should be trained in techniques and skills that are more advanced than CPR. These providers include doctors, RN’s, NP’s, dentists, EMT’s etc. PALS certification is required for providers with pediatric patients. ACLS & PALS certification cards are valid for two years in Ohio. We recommend taking your recertification course prior to your current card expiring to avoid being non-compliant within your organization. ACLS and PALS guidelines are updated every five years by the American Heart Association. Even if your certification is not due to expire, we recommend staying up to date with any guideline or algorithm changes,

BLS CPR CERTIFICATION AND RECERTIFICATION

Basic Life Support or BLS is the healthcare provider version of CPR. If you are unsure if your employer requires a BLS or CPR certification, we recommend taking the BLS class. Our CPR and BLS courses are not identical so if you are required to have a BLS certification, we do not recommend taking the CPR course. BLS had the most guideline updates in the recent 2015 update. If you are renewing but haven’t taken the course since 2014, we recommend reviewing the materials as they have changes.

ABOUT OHIO

Ohio, nicknamed The Buckeye State, is situated in the Midwestern part of the Unites States and is the 7^th most populous state. Ohio is a part of the Great Lakes region with Lake Erie on the northern border and the Ohio river on the Southern. The five most populous cities in Ohio are Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Toledo and Akron.

Ohio has a good network of highways that aids in inland transport. Located beside Lake Eerie, the state has many cargo ports. Manufacturing forms the major part of the state’s economy. Assembling auto and aircraft parts and fabricating metal for automobile, hardware like valves, tools and other fittings are the key industries. Soap, chemicals and paint manufacturing form an important backbone of the economy. Ohio has a high reserve of coal and natural gas. Apart from manufacturing, Ohio is also one of the largest producers of soybeans.

The U.S. News and World report ranked the state #35 out of 50. The rank was based on health care, education, crime and corrections, infrastructure, opportunity, economy and government. The state ranked in the top 20 for government and opportunity. The state’s lowest rankings were in education and infrastructure. For health care, the state ranked #29 overall. The state ranked the highest in health care affordability, Medicare quality and low suicide rate and lowest in child dental and wellness visits and low mortality rate.

According to the Safewise Report, Ohio is a relatively safe place to live ranking the state 24^th out of 50. They quoted a recent FBI Crime report that stated the chances of an Ohio resident being a victim of a violent crime is 75% less than the national average! The top ten safest cities to live in are Dover, Chester Township, Bay Village, Bellevue, Poland Township, Hudson, Brecksville, Olmsted Township, Seven Hills and Powell. The rankings were calculated based on the amount of reported crimes in the cities per population. Based on a ranking report completed by RoadSnacks, the top ten most dangerous cities in Ohio are Whitehall, Moraine, Lima, Cincinnati, Springfield, Canton, Portsmouth, Dayton, Chillicothe and Toledo. The RoadSnacks’ report was based on data found in the FBI’s 2015 Crime in the United States Report.

COLUMBUS

Columbus is the most populous city in Ohio and the state’s capital. In 2016, the city was estimated to have a population of 860,090. Columbus is a part of the Franklin County and the Columbus, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area that includes the Delaware, Franklin, Licking, Fairfield, Hocking, Madison, Union, Morrow, Perry and Pickaway counties. Columbus has a diverse economy made up of a multitude of different industries including defense, banking, insurance, education, healthcare and technology. In 2016, Forbes ranked the city #14 for Best Places for Business and Careers.

According to the U.S. News and World report, the top ranking hospitals in the Columbus area are the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, OhioHealth Riverside Hospital, Grant Medical Center-Ohio Health and Mount Carmel East and West Hospitals. The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center was also ranked #2 in the state for best hospitals and nationally ranked for 8 adult specialties. The hospital’s featured services are cancer, heart and vascular, neurological institute, obstetrics/gynecology, sports medicine and transplant. The Wexner Medical Center system has 79 primary care physicians and 22 OB-GYN providers. Overall there are approximately 1,855 doctors and 2, 317 nurses employed at the hospital.

In the American Lung Association’s 2017 State of the Air report, Franklin County received an “F” grade for ozone quality. The county had 16 orange days (unhealthy for at-risk groups) in the prior year. Groups that are affected by “orange” days are children & adults with asthma, individuals with COPD, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, children under 18 and adults over 65. The county had a passing grade for fine particle pollution and an “A’ for 24-hour particle pollution. The Columbus metro area tied for 1^st for cleanest metro area for 24-hour particle pollution and 39^th for ozone pollution.

CLEVELAND

Cleveland is Ohio’s second most populous city with a population of 388,072. Cleveland is the Cuyahoga County and the Greater Cleveland Metropolitan area. The city is northern Ohio, south of the Lake Erie. Cleveland is home to three major professional teams, Cleveland Indians (MLB), Cleveland Browns (NFL) and Cleveland Cavaliers (NBA). The Cavaliers have been Eastern Conference champions four times and won the Conference championship in 2016.

The top ranked hospitals in the Cleveland area are Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and Fairview Hospital. The Cleveland Clinic is ranked #1 in the state of Ohio and regionally ranked in 14th adult and 9th children specialties nationwide. Specialties that the hospital earned a top three ranking in, were Cardiology & Heart Surgery (#1), Diabetes & Endocrinology (#3), Gastroenterology & GI Surgery (#2), Gynecology(#3), Nephrology (#2), Orthopedics (#3), Pulmonology (#3), Rheumatology (#3) and Urology (#2). In the 2016-2017 year, the Cleveland Clinic made the U.S. News and World Report’s elite Honor Roll list and was ranked #2 behind only the Mayo Clinic. The ranking was based on the ratings of 16 different specialties and the amount of “high performing” ratings they received. The hospital employs approximately 3,145 doctors and 5,070 nurses with a total workforce of over 37,000, making it the largest private employer in Cleveland. In the clinic’s most recent year of reporting there were 53,765 admissions.

CINCINNATI

Cincinnati is the third most populous city in Ohio with an estimated population of 298,800. The city is a part of and the county seat of the Hamilton County. The city’s cost of living is 8.2% below the national average and is the fastest growing economy out of the twelve Midwestern states. Cleveland is home to two major league sport teams, the Cincinnati Bengals (NFL) and the Cincinnati Reds (MLB). The Reds have a total of five World Series victories, while the Bengals have had two Super Bowl appearances.

The top three ranking hospitals in the Cincinnati area were Christ Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital and University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Christ Hospital was regionally ranked in two specialties: Gastroenterology and GI Surgery (#42) and Gynecology (#44). The Christ Hospital is ranked fifth in the entire state. Christ Hospital has an estimated 1,270 doctors and 890 nurses on staff. Good Sam was also regionally ranked in two specialties: Gynecology (#27) and Orthopedics (#41) and was ranked sixth overall in Ohio.

Toledo

Toledo is northwest Ohio and a part of the Lucas County. The city borders the state of Michigan and is on the western part of Lake Erie. Toledo is the fourth most populous city in Ohio with a population of 287,208 (2010). Toledo is a part of the Toledo Metropolitan area. Toledo’s economy is fueled by industrial manufacturing. The city is the headquarters to many large glass and automobile companies.Toledo is ranked in the top ten most dangerous cities in Ohio, the crime rate is much higher than the state’s average for both property crime and violent crime.

There are 14 hospitals in the Toledo area, however, none of them were nationally or regionally ranked for specialties. Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Pro Medical Toledo Hospital and University of Toledo Medical Center all received high performing ratings in one or more procedures.

AKRON

Akron is the fifth most populous city in Ohio and the 119^th largest in the nation. The 2015 estimated population was 197,542. Akron is the county seat of Summit County and a part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. Akron was a largely manufacturing based economy and like similar economies has struggled within the last few decades to find a new economic identity. Industries that are growing within the city are education, healthcare and social assistance. The largest employers in Akron are Summa Health System and Akron General Health System.

There are two health systems in Akron that own the adult hospitals, Summa Health System (SHS) and Akron General Health System. SHS has seven hospitals and 20 healthcare centers. The Summa Akron City and St. Thomas Hospitals have ranked regionally in the past and are rated “high performing” in 4 procedures/conditions. Akron Children’s Hospital is regionally ranked 6 children specialties and Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center (affiliated with Cleveland Clinic) is regionally ranked in one specialty and rated “high performing” in 7 procedures/conditions.

OHIO HIGH SCHOOL CPR REQUIREMENTS

Ohio recently passed a law that implements CPR training as a part of the graduation requirements for high school students. The law will go into effect the 2017-2018 school year and the CPR class will be taught in school by teachers or school employees. The CPR training will be part of the health program and will not qualify as a two-year CPR certification course. High school graduates that would like to earn their certification are welcome to enroll in our online classes.
