PALS, ACLS BLS Certification

You may be asking yourself, “What is BLS certification?” BLS certification stands for basic life support. Many EMTs, police officers, and firemen have to have this certification. It’s one step higher than CPR and more in-depth. The next tier up from the standard BLS certification is ACLS certification, or advanced cardiac life support. Doctors, nurses, and flight nurses have to have this more advanced life-saving training, and they have to renew it every two years.

PALS stands for pediatric advanced life support, and neonatal nurses, doctors, and medical professionals have this training because they work with sick children. Our comprehensive PALS study materials and the PALS pretest ensure you’ll have all of the training and knowledge you need to pass your PALS certification test when the times comes.

Each one of our PALS, ACLS, and BLS certifications is updated every five years when the guidelines are released. Delaware State Information

Fur traders established Delaware around 1631, making it one of the original 13 colonies. Delaware was also the first state to ratify the Constitution of the United States, leading to its nickname as “The First State.”  The state’s name came from the Delaware River, and the river got its name in honor of Thomas West, who was the third Baron De La Warr.

Delaware is ranked as the thirty-second healthiest state in the nation and it comes with several notable health problems and an aging population. The top five health concerns for the state are heart disease, cancer, stroke, mental health and suicide, and obesity. These issues affect the population as a whole, impacting communities from all areas of the state.

Wilmington

Wilmington is the state’s largest city with a population of 71,442. This city has a rich cultural history, and it was the site of the first Swedish settlement in the nation, Fort Christina. It acted as a border state during the Civil War and it led the nation in the production of iron, leather, and gunpowder. This city ranks as one of the most dangerous to live in in the United States.

Mental health and suicide are the top health concerns for Wilmington. People tend to minimize their mental health problems and don’t go to the doctor because many insurance plans won’t cover many mental health treatments, therapies or drugs. This can lead to a higher suicide rate, and this can mean that more first responders are putting their BLS certifications to the test. Dover

The second-largest city in the state is Dover. This is also the state’s capital city. Dover has a population of 37,786 people. The city’s name came from William Dover who came from Kent, England in 1683. Dover played an important part for the underground railroad. Thousands of slaves fled to freedom through this city.

The aging population in Dover has an elevated risk of suffering from a stroke. Although age does play a role, the person’s lifestyle choices, as well as their weight, also are important factors. Newark

Newark claims the spot as Delaware’s third-largest city with a population of 33,398 people. The city has a large college town feel as it is home to the University of Delaware. This college ranks as one of the top colleges in the United States. Scottish-Irish settlers founded Newark in 1694, and in 1758, King George II of Great Britain officially chartered it.

The population of Newark has high cancer rates when you compare it to the rest of the state. Lung cancer and breast cancer are the top two forms. If someone has lung cancer, this can lead to difficulty breathing. Someone with CPR/AED training may recognize the signs that someone needs help, like the student who collapsed at school. Middletown

Middletown is home to 20,876 residents, and this population makes it the fourth biggest city in the state. The population has almost doubled over the past few years, and it is one of the fastest-growing areas in the state of Delaware. The town’s claim to fame is the 1989 Dead Poets Society film with Robin Williams, which was shot almost entirely at the local St. Andrew’s School.

Heart disease is the top health concern for Middletown, and lifestyle choices along with age both play an important role in how many people suffer from this disease. If someone has heart disease, their chances of suffering from a heart attack or another serious heart-related issue almost double. Delaware recognizes this increased risk. Smyrna

The fifth-largest city in Delaware is Smyrna, and it has a population of 11,371 residents. In 1806, this city had the original name of Duck Creek Cross Roads, but it changed to Smyrna in honor of the ancient Greek seaport with the same name. Originally a shipping center, the city became more agriculture-based after the shipping industry collapsed in the 1850s.

Smyrna’s biggest health concern is the high obesity rate the population has. This higher obesity rate can lead to more severe health complications, such as hypertension, diabetes, and an increased risk of a heart attack or stroke. When you combine this with the aging population Delaware has, you have a recipe for a serious public health concern.
