$35We are currently providing our comprehensive online training and certification classes to Mississippi residents. We offer these courses in an entirely online format:
Our comprehensive CPR and AED/First Aid programs are suitable for anyone to take and earn their certification. Currently, Mississippi high schools require their students to take and pass a mandatory CPR AED Certification and First Aid class to obtain their diplomas. This law went into effect in 2013, and Mississippi became the 11th state to make this a mandatory course in high schools. The American Heart Association (AHA) offered a training kit for the schools to use during the course, so students get hands-on training.
Our more advanced certifications, like ACLS, BLS, and PALS, are typically required for a nurse, doctor, nurse practitioner, EMT, or medical personnel that works with critical patients. However, people could benefit from having this online training and certification as you never know when you may need it. For example, bystanders performed CPR on a teenager who collapsed during a lacrosse game and then used their BLS training to monitor him until other help arrived. Each of our courses follows the most recent AHA guidelines, and they’re updated every five years when the AHA updates their guidelines. The most recent update was in 2015, so you know you’re getting the most up-to-date material available when you choose our courses. Additionally, AHA-certified physicians write all of our course material, so you know it’s correct.
All of our certification classes from CPR/AED to ACLS and PALS are through an online platform. This means that once you sign up for the course and pay the fee, you get instant access to all of the study materials and the exam. You’ll be able to complete each training class at a time that is convenient for you from the comfort of your own home or wherever you have an internet-ready device and a steady connection.
There is no driving to an in-person testing center, no having to take time off of work, and you get unlimited retakes. However, we do recommend that if you don’t pass your online certification exam that you go back and look through the study materials again before you attempt another certification test.
Our class materials and exams are easy to navigate even if computers aren’t your strong suit. You can complete your certification in five simple steps:
Mississippi became the 20th state in December 1817, and it has maintained the ranking of the 31st more populous state in the United States with a population of almost 3 million people. Affectionately nicknamed the Hospitality State, tourists come to Mississippi to experience the welcoming atmosphere and to visit the birthplace of the Delta blues music genre. This city has long hot and humid summers with short, mild winters.
In Mississippi, the leading health concern in both adults and children is the high obesity rate. This high obesity rate leads to the other chronic health problems including high blood pressure, heart disease, and certain cancers. The state currently ranks as the second worst state in the nation for its obesity rate with an estimated 37.2% of adults over the age of 18 meeting the criteria for obesity. The high rate of heart attacks and heart-related deaths in the state are making more and more people seek their CPR or BLS certifications.
Jackson is the capital city of Mississippi, as well as the largest city in the state, with over 169,000 people. Currently, the city of Jackson has an area of over 113 square miles and it has the nickname of The City with Soul for the many blues and jazz artists that reside here. Jackson’s population experienced a rapid increase during the Civil War and it became a center for trade and manufacturing.
In 2017, Jackson ranked as the “fattest overall city” in the nation with an obesity rate that is 0.7% higher than the national average. This obesity rate contributes to the alarming rate of heart-related deaths this city experiences. Knowing and doing CPR correctly doubles or even triples the chances of being able to assist those around you. For example, an AHA representative and staff member was shopping in Jackson when she heard someone screaming for help. A woman had collapsed and stopped breathing. The second-largest city in Mississippi is the city of Gulfport with over 72,000 people. Historically, Gulfport played a vital role in connecting lumber mills, and much of the city revolved around this industry. Hurricane Camille almost destroyed the city in 1969, and Hurricane Katrina did the same in 2005. Since then, the city has rebuilt itself and today it is a popular tourist attraction.
The city of Gulfport has a problem with contaminated drinking water and the city regularly sends out notices for residents to boil any tap water before they drink it. The county health board cites high levels of bacteria which can lead to rashes, infections, and various diseases. However, this problem with unsafe water can also move to the water parks. EMTs were called to a water park in Gulfport when more than ten children fell ill due to exposure to chemicals. They used their BLS certifications and ACLS certifications to monitor everyone while they transported them to the hospitals, and you can read more by clicking here.
The third-largest city in Mississippi is Southaven with a population of just under 49,000 people. This city started as a small village, and it has become one of the fastest growing cities in the nation. The University of Mississippi is in this city, and the majority of the population is under 35 years old.
Southaven has a high rate of people with diabetes, both for people seeking ongoing treatment for it and people who have been diagnosed with it but aren’t actively seeking treatment or managing it. A large part of this high diabetes rate leads back to the high obesity rate, and if it is left to get worse, you may need medical intervention.
Hattiesburg, Mississippi is the fourth-largest city in the state with a population of 26,926 people as of 2016. Nicknamed the “Hub City,” Hattiesburg thrived on the lumber and railroad industries. Today this city is a popular tourist attraction and has festivals, cultural centers, museums, and a diverse economy that are strong draws for people of all ages.
Respiratory diseases are the number one health concern in this city, and Hattiesburg has an air quality ranking of 44 out of 100. It isn’t unusual to see people with pneumonia, bronchitis, asthma, and COPD have flare-ups when they go out on days when pollution levels are high. If this happens, it is a good idea to have a CPR certification so you can help them until other help arrives. For example, the schools in Hattiesburg require their students to have CPR training in the event of an emergency. You can find out more by clicking here.
Biloxi is Mississippi’s fifth-largest city with a population of 45,915 people as of 2016. The city has a rich history, and a large part of its economy has influences around oyster luggers and shrimp boats for decades. Today, Biloxi is a mecca for fresh seafood, tourism, and the gambling industry. It took a hard hit with Hurricane Katrina, and the residents have been rebuilding ever since.
This city has a very high cancer rate that falls just two points behind the national average of 54.4. The heightened cancer rates are thought to be related to the air quality, water quality, and obesity-related cancers like esophageal cancer, pancreatic cancer, and endometrium cancer. More and more people are becoming aware of these obesity-related diseases, and the community is coming together to fight them. To find out how, click here.
