Oregon Online Training Information

Oregon Online PALS, ACLS BLS Certification Training and Renewal Courses 

If you work in the medical field, you know you’re most likely going to be required to be certified in Basic Life Support or BLS. BLS ensures you will know what to do in case of a patient emergency, and it works in tandem with AED and CPR. The next step up is Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, and we provide that as well. ACLS certification is targeted at physicians, nurses, EMTs, and first responders who may need more advanced life-saving training. PALS certification is used if you work with children or in the pediatric field.

If it is time for your renewal, you will have to check your course information because the American Heart Association periodically updates their guidelines and regulations. There is no time constraint, so you can take the certification or re-certification exam at your leisure when the time is right for you to do so. Online First Aid, CPR AED Certification and Re-certification

Lack of CPR knowledge is one of the primary reasons for these deaths.

Oregon Information and State Facts

Oregon was the 33rd state to be inducted into the United States, and it is the ninth largest state to date. Oregon has a population of almost 4 million people, and according to ipl.org, it is the 27th most populated state in the United States. Oregon is one of the most diverse states with everything from volcanoes, large bodies of water, evergreens, and high deserts.

Health Issues in Oregon

Oregon is home to several dominant health issues. A survey done in 2015 ranked Oregon as the 20th most unhealthy state in the United States. This ranking comes from surveys of several categories, and those categories are broken down in the list below.

The top five leading causes of death in Oregon are cancer, heart disease, respiratory disease, stroke, and unintentional injuries. There is also a high rate of homelessness, as well as a high incidence of women who die from drug abuse each year. These statistics are according to a study done by America’s Health Rankings.  The biggest factors that determined the state’s ranking were behavior because of the widespread drug abuse, and policy because so many residents are uninsured.

Portland

Portland is the biggest city in Oregon with a population of 583,776 inhabitants. Portland is ranked as the 26th most populous city in the United States. Portland is known for having one of the most vibrant music scenes out of any state in the United States. It also boasts a large variety of educational museums, and American Style magazine named Portland as the tenth best Big City Arts Destination in 2006.

OregonLive.com named Portland as the last city in the country for mental health problems being able to get help. This ranking came from the annual survey done by Mental Health America.  Heart disease is also another large issue in Portland, along with chronic obesity. There are neighborhoods where it just isn’t feasible to go out and walk each day, and this factor plays a role. If you live in this area, this is where having  BLS certification or the more advanced ACLS certification would be a good idea. You want to be able to help in case of an emergency, and these online certification courses will make sure you have the training you need so you know what to do until help arrives.

Salem

Salem is the second largest city in Oregon with a population of just over 164,000 people. Salem is the capital of Oregon, and it is known for its wonderful wineries. It sits in the beautiful Willamette Valley, and it is a tourist destination in the summer months. According to City-Data, Salem’s workforce is made up of 30% government workers. Salem is also home to the Hallie Ford Museum of Art, and the historic Riverfront Carousel.

Salem’s air quality is still ranked very low on the national scale according to BestPlaces.net. This is contributed to mostly due to the city not having an air pollution authority in place. There are also glass making plants that were found to be using heavy metals, and this upped the pollution levels in the air. This air quality can irritate chronic respiratory problems, and if someone suffers an attack, they’ll need help as soon as possible. If you’ve gone through BLS training and got your certification, you’ll be able to keep the person calm. Staying calm will decrease their chances of making their attack worse.

Eugene

Eugene, Oregon has over 166,000 people who call it home. It is consistently ranked one of the best cities to live in within the United States. Eugene hosts a wide variety of summer festivals and is known for its art scene. The city has a rich history and has large parts of the city designated for historical preservation.

Eugene’s two most prominent health problems are homelessness and chronic health problems. The homeless rate is skyrocketing, and this leads people not to have access to traditional health care. This means that conditions go untreated for years and get worse over time. These worsening conditions make is so important for more people to receive proper training and certifications. The EMS system in Eugene is facing a crisis, and the more people that take ACLS or BLS certification courses, the better it will be for the community. If EMS services are taking longer to get to people, they will need someone to help them in the meantime, and this is where the various BLS certifications and CPR training come in.

Hillsboro

Hillsboro, Oregon has a population of just over 91,000 and is known as a city for having very little violent crime when it is compared to the national average. Hillsboro is known to be a city where culture is prominent. It features three large movie theaters, and an orchestra was started in 2001. There are also over 20 parks, and it is home to the Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve.

Hillsboro’s radon exposure levels are higher than the national average. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer deaths in the United States, and residents of Hillsboro suffer higher exposure levels. It seeps in through the foundations and cracks from the soil and residents become exposed.

Medford

Medford, Oregon has a population of over 80,000 inhabitants. Medford is seen as a cultural hub between Oregon and Northern California. This city is known for its beautiful scenery and variety of festivals and events year round. The climate is mild year round, and it is known as a tourist hotspot. There are wine tasting festivals, and miles or trails so you can take in the gorgeous natural scenery.

The city of Medford has a high ranking for mental illness problems. Medford police have highlighted a 17% increase in calls for mental health holds and a 35% increase in suicides and attempted suicides in the past year alone. A lot of these calls and crises have been linked to drug and alcohol abuse exacerbating the mental health issue. Obesity rates and heart disease cases are up in the city as well. Any problems with a person’s heart could put you in a situation where having the proper ACLS certifications could be life-saving.

Oregon CPR News

2016 – Every student that graduates from Oregon schools are now required to have AED and CPR training. There is also a hands-on portion of the class that the students are required to pass in order to get their diplomas. They can take this class in person or online, but the online class is longer than the in-person. They will receive the training in their local school health programs before graduation.
