South Carolina has a lot of rural areas. This means anyone who needs medical help could be waiting a while to receive it. BLS (Basic Life Support) training and certification classes can help prepare you if you come upon someone who needs help now and first responders are not on the scene yet. You’ll learn how to keep the patient calm and how to assess injuries until more help arrives.
The American Heart Association’s guidelines are updated every five years. You want to make sure that your ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification is up-to-date as well. It can be difficult to find time to attend an in-person class or go to a testing center when you work during the week. Medical professionals like doctors, nurses, and EMTs need to obtain their ACLS certifications and recertify them every two years to stay current and updated with any new techniques. We understand this, which is why we have comprehensive online classes that will help you get your ACLS certification or recertification.
As more people are paying attention to health issues in the United States, they want to be CPR certified and have First Aid/AED Training. With the rising cost of medical care, many people may put off going to the doctor until their conditions worsen. This increases the chances of someone becoming unresponsive in everyday situations, and the public’s need to have CPR certification or AED training in order to be there to possibly save someone’s life. This is part of the reason South Carolina’s schools are making it mandatory for each student to learn CPR before they graduate. You can read more here.
Once you’ve decided that you want to get your certifications, whether you need them for work or you just want them for added security, we have you covered. Our comprehensive online training classes follow American Heart Association guidelines. They are fully updated every five years so you know you are getting the knowledge you need. There is no time limit; it’s multiple choice. You can take it unlimited times if you don’t pass the first time.
When you’ve completed our online training class and passed the certification test, you’ll get a digital copy of your certification card. A hard copy will be mailed out within 5 business days.
In 1778, South Carolina became the 8th state to ratify the Constitution of the United States, and in 1860, it was the first state that voted favorably to secede from the Union. This lasted until 1868 when the United States voted to readmit it. If you think of this state, you think of the beautiful coastlines, various historical sites, Southern Plantations, and gorgeous gardens. Today, it has a population of over four million people and a very diverse demographic.
South Carolina has several health concerns that affect the population. It is ranked seventh in the nation for its obesity rate. This high figure can contribute to the other health concerns that the area currently has including high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, and heart disease. In a 2015 study, South Carolina ranked 42nd on the list of the unhealthiest states in the United States.
One of South Carolina’s most vibrant cities is also its largest with over 134,800 residents. Charleston is a very family-friendly city with dozens of activities to enjoy all year round. In 1670, English settlers founded this city as the capital of the Carolina colony. In 1886, a huge earthquake almost destroyed the city but it survived, and it has been thriving ever since. Today, it is a mecca for businesses, colleges, and huge festivals.
In Charleston, diabetes is a very big problem that many of the population have to deal with. It is one of the leading causes of death in the city because it frequently goes untreated. If someone has diabetes and goes into diabetic ketoacidosis, this condition can be life-threatening. They’ll need to get to a hospital right away so they can get treatment from people who have had the proper certifications and training to help them, like BLS training.
The second most populous city in South Carolina in Columbia, with 134,300 people. This is the capital city of the state. It offers a variety of cultural and recreational events year-round for residents to enjoy. There are museums for historical events, and the EdVenture Museum has the title of the largest children’s museum in the Southern states.
The number one cause of death in South Carolina and Columbia is heart disease. Currently, this state’s mortality rate from heart disease is higher than the national average. If someone suffers a decline in their condition due to heart disease, they should go to a medical center immediately. The chances of them surviving triples if they’re in a hospital with staff that has the proper certifications and training like ACLS certification or BLS training. This is why the South Carolina’s first responders now attend mandatory high-performance training. Click here to read more.
Mount Pleasant is the third largest city in South Carolina. It has a population of 109,000 residents. Between the years of 1990 and 2000, this was one of the fastest growing cities in the state, doubling its population in a ten-year span. There are several historical sites and museums to enjoy, along with festivals and concerts all year.
Childhood obesity is one of the primary health concerns for this city. Statewide, over 30.9% of children under the age of 18 are considered to be obese. Childhood obesity can lead to more severe health problems later in life like diabetes, hypertension, and a poorer quality of life overall.
The fourth largest city in South Carolina has a population of 72,900. Rock Hill got its name from a small flint hill in the mid-1800s. The railroad was responsible for bringing an influx of people who decided to settle in the area. Today this city is a mix of historic sites and museums with something for everyone to enjoy.
Many of this city’s residents have high blood pressure, and the majority of the people who have it don’t know it or don’t treat it properly. High blood pressure is one of the leading causes of heart attacks and strokes. On average, every seven out of ten people who have a heart attack have high blood pressure as well.
The final city on our list is Greenville, with a population of 67,400. Greenville began as a trading post. It experienced two periods of rapid growth in the mid and late 1800s. By 1900, there were two railroads, cotton mills, and several schools. Today, the downtown area of Greenville has dozens of historical sites and it is the recipient of the Great American Main Street Award.
The possibility of strokes is a big concern for the residents of this city, as well as the entire state. Currently, South Carolina is higher than the national average for stroke-related deaths, with a statewide average of 44%. The national average is just 36%. With these statistics, it makes sense that more people are becoming aware of the need to get their ACLS certifications or even a CPR certification. Having this training and knowledge has the potential to save someone’s life in the event of an emergency like the story you can find here.
A student collapsed during class in Myrtle Beach, and the school’s nurse used an AED and CPR to get his heart beating again. After several rounds of CPR, the student started breathing on his own. You can find out more by clicking here.
