We offer online certification through ACLS, PALS, BLS, First Aid, and CPR/AED courses. Our courses are ideal for Texas residents who are required to be certified in lifesaving techniques and would like to earn their certification in an online course. Our program doesn’t require you to attend an in-person skills test or complete the course in a designated time slot. This course is completed entirely online at a pace that works for you. The materials included in our comprehensive courses were created by physicians using the 2015 guidelines provided by the American Heart Association.

CPR/AED CERTIFICATION and RECERTIFICATION

When people think of CPR & First Aid training, they think of jobs that are in the medical field. However, more and more employers are requiring their employees to be certified in CPR and First Aid. In Texas, teachers, social workers, daycare providers, and coaches are also generally required to have a current certification. Since many professionals work during normal business hours, we have created an online CPR training course that can be completed at any time of the day.

Once you purchase the course that you would like to take, you will receive a link to your study materials. The study materials are available to you on any internet-ready device, so you can study at home, work or virtually anywhere that you can access the internet. The study materials are not available to use during the exam. We recommend only starting the exam once you are confident that you understand and are knowledgeable about the provided materials. The exam is multiple choice and is not timed, you may complete the exam at your own pace. Immediately after you complete the exam, you will be able to print out a digital copy of your CPR provider card. Your hard copy will be mailed to you.

ACLS, PALS & BLS CERTIFICATION & RENEWAL COURSE

Most medical professionals are required to have a certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). Basic life support training will ensure that you are prepared to respond in an emergency situation prior to transferring the patient to hospital care. BLS incorporated CPR/AED with other basic rescue techniques. Advanced Cardiac Life Support uses more advanced methods of life-saving techniques and is used by doctors, nurses and responders in emergency care facilities. PALS training is required for medical professionals that work in pediatrics.

Our ACLS, PALS & BLS course materials are based on the most recent AHA materials and guidelines. We do not require all three courses to be completed to earn your certification. Simply choose which method you need to be certified in and you will be enrolled in that class. We do offer package deals for individuals and groups that need to complete more than one course.

STATE OF TEXAS INFORMATION

“Everything is bigger in Texas”! Texas is the second largest state in the US-based on size and population. Texas is 268, 597 square miles, falling behind Alaska which is 663, 300 square miles. In 2015, the Texas population was 27.47 million, about 12 million fewer residents than California. Residents of Texas are nicknamed Texans and have pride for their state unmatched by any other. According to Forbes, Texas is the second largest economy in the nation behind only California (2016), and they ranked Texas number 2 for Best States for Business. The cost of doing business in Texas is 10% below the national average. Texas is one of seven states that doesn’t have an income tax, which means Texans do not have to hand over a portion of their checks to the state.

TEXAS HEALTH ISSUES

Although Texas has a healthy economy, the state ranks amongst the unhealthiest in the nation. In 2016, the United Health Foundation ranked the state 34 out of 50 in terms of healthiest states. The ranking was based on behaviors (smoking, obesity), community and environment (air pollution, violence, infectious disease), policy (immunization, lack of health insurance), clinical care (preventable hospitalizations, primary care physicians) and outcomes (diabetes, premature death, cancers). The state ranked above the US average for behaviors, with an outstanding rank of #5 for smoking and #3 for high school graduation, but ranked below the US average in every other core measurement. Texas ranked #50 for policy and #41 for community and environment. The biggest determining factors in the ranking were the low immunization rates in children and lack of health insurance amongst residents. Additionally, Texas has poor air quality with the city of El Paso ranking as one of the country’s worst cities for air quality.

HOUSTON

Houston is the most populous city in Texas with 2.24 million residents as of 2014. It is the fourth most populous in the country falling behind New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago. Houston is home to NASA’s Johnson Space Center and the two-time NBA champions, the Houston Rockets. It is the second largest concentration of Fortune 500 companies. The climate in Houston is humid subtropical with temperatures over 90 degrees during the summer and generally mild winters.

A 2016 report by the American Lung Association ranked Houston in the top 15 for most polluted cities in the nation. The report is based on two types of air pollution, ozone and particle. Houston has shown improvement in ozone pollution, with less unhealthy days than recorded in 2015. Even with the improvement, there are still more unhealthy days than safe days. This same report showed a significant drop in particle pollution. Particle pollution is dangerous because the small particles can lodge in a person’s lungs and cause asthma attacks, strokes and heart attacks. In areas with high particle pollution, having basic knowledge in CPR or BLS can be beneficial in times of cardiac emergencies due to the air quality.

SAN ANTONIO

San Antonio is the second largest city in Texas in terms of population. In 2015, the population size was 1.4 million residents, making San Antonio the seventh-most populous city in the US. San Antonio is home to the five-time NBA champions the San Antonio Spurs who play in the AT&T Center arena. The weather in the city is generally hot in the summer with warm, mild winters. The last time snow fell in San Antonio was 2011.

In 2014-2016 San Antonio found itself on lists ranking in the top 10 for most obese cities in the United States. The rankings were determined by the percentage of the population which is obese. Statistics show that nearly 38.5% of adults are overweight and 29% are obese. In children, 17.5% are overweight and 19.1% are obese. Being overweight can lead to serious problems such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes. One of the contributing factors to the weight issue in San Antonio is the heat. Many residents struggle with being active because they don’t want to work out outdoors.

If you live in the San Antonio area and want to enroll in free fitness programs check out Fitness in the Park. Fitness in the Park was created by the San Antonio Parks and Recreations to encourage residents to love a more active lifestyle. Some of the fitness activities that they offer are: swimming, tennis, dancing, basketball, body conditioning and boot camps. Depending on the type of class, some of the activities may be offered indoors.

It is always recommended that anyone with a respiratory illness should track the ozone levels and stay indoors on days that are at dangerous levels. In terms of particle pollution, Dallas scored a passing grade by the American Lung Association. Dallas has high year round pollen counts that accounts for a higher risk of allergy and asthma attacks. CPR NEWS IN TEXAS

June 2013 – The state of Texas passed a bill that requires CPR training as a prerequisite to high school graduation. Teens and pre-teens are able to completed the training course any time between the 7th and 12th grade. The student doesn’t need to completed First Aid or AED training as part of the requirement and does not need to be certified as a result for the class. The actual length and intensity of the course are decided on by the school district. The training can be incorporated into any course.

April 2015 – Plano, Texas joined other North Texas cities in rolling out the PulsePoint mobile app. CPR-trained Plano volunteers that are using the app will be alerted of cardiac emergencies in public places near them (within walking distance). Once they reach the victim, they can administer CPR until emergency responders arrive. Providing CPR to someone who is having a cardiac emergency can potentially save their life.
